Social media users were incensed by the National Cathedral Secretariat’s response to North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s widely circulated press briefing regarding the national monument’s commissioning.
The lawmaker, who has started a number of exposés on the project, declared that he would address Ghanaians regarding its status.
Scheduled for March 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM, the press conference has been dubbed “media engagement from the world’s most expensive pit.”
Interestingly, this is the day when former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced the National Cathedral’s official commissioning and opening in July 2021.
Nevertheless, the $100 million multireligious cathedral has not yet been completed. It was supposed to include a 5,000-seat auditorium, chapels, and a baptistery.
The secretariat uploaded a presser flier on X, the former Twitter, claiming it was a fake.
However, several Ghanaians have taken issue with the secretariat, challenging the rationale behind its response to the news conference that Mr. Ablakwa is hosting.
