John Nathan Deal is a lawyer and politician from Georgia who served as the state’s 82nd governor from 2011 to 2019.

Nathan Deal’s Career
He earned his bachelor’s and law degrees with honors from Mercer University in Macon. In 1966, he graduated from law school and joined the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of captain.
Deal worked in private practice for 23 years. He was also a criminal prosecutor, a Hall County juvenile court judge, and a superior court judge for the Northeastern Judicial Circuit. He was elected to the Georgia Senate as a Democrat in 1980.
