American professional baseball player and coach Nathan Colbert Jr. (April 9, 1946 – January 5, 2023) was born in the United States. From 1966 to 1976, he was a first baseman in Major League Baseball, most notably as a member of the expansion San Diego Padres franchise.

As a member of the Padres for five consecutive seasons from 1969 to 1973, the three-time All-Star averaged 30 home runs and 85 runs batted in (RBIs), becoming the franchise’s first star player. Colbert still held the Padres’ career home run record (163) and was in the top ten in various offensive categories into the 2022 season. He also spent time with the Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, Montreal Expos, and Oakland A’s. Colbert’s career was cut short after only ten seasons due to a back injury.

Colbert spent several years after his playing career as a hitting instructor for the Padres during spring training, and then as a hitting coach and manager in the minor leagues. He also became an ordained minister who worked with at-risk youth. Colbert was among the first class of inductees into the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame in 1999.
