Iranian physicist and human rights advocate Narges Mohammadi was born on April 21, 1972.
She serves as vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC), which is led by Shirin Ebadi, the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. She is an outspoken supporter of Iranian hijab disobedience by large numbers of feminists and a vocal opponent of the hijab and chastity policy of 2023.
Narges was given a 16-year prison term in Tehran in May 2016 for founding and leading “a human rights movement that campaigns for the abolition of the death penalty.”She was freed in 2020 but returned to prison in 2021, where she has since reported on the mistreatment of women in custody.

In 2013, Hamidreza Mohammadi was taken into custody and accused of “national security offenses.” He received a five-year prison term but was freed in 2017 after serving just three.
Hamidreza Mohammadi stated in a BBC interview that his sister is “a symbol of hope and courage for the Iranian people.” According to him, she is “fighting for the rights of all Iranians, and she will not be silenced.”
