Fiifi Boafo, the spokesperson for Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, has addressed concerns regarding the involvement of traditional leaders in political matters.
During a meeting with the Nungua Traditional Council, Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasized the importance of traditional leaders in shaping Ghana’s development and encouraged them to express their views on key issues such as natural resource management.
In an interview with Citi FM, Fiifi Boafo reiterated that Dr Prempeh’s intention is to promote collective development and ensure that decisions made by politicians benefit the country as a whole. He clarified that the call for chiefs to participate in political discussions does not mean aligning with any specific political party, but rather contributing their perspectives as important stakeholders in Ghana’s progress.
Boafo highlighted Dr Opoku Prempeh’s belief that traditional authorities should have a strong voice in the decision-making process, particularly in issues like resource management. He emphasized the need for a collaborative approach where chiefs’ opinions are valued and taken into consideration.
Overall, the spokesperson emphasized that Dr Opoku Prempeh’s call for chiefs to engage in political matters is aimed at fostering inclusive and sustainable development for Ghana, rather than undermining the constitution.
