Nancy Foreman raised George Foreman during his childhood. At the age of 78, she passed away in Houston, Texas, on December 14, 1998, and was buried in Paradise North Cemetery. Nancy Nelson was William and Addie Nelson’s daughter, born in Harrison, Texas in June 1920.

She helped her father, a sharecropper, by working in the fields to help put food on the table and assist with work. Nancy’s schooling was hampered because she would have to quit the school as a result. George was born into her family on January 10, 1949.

Leroy Moorehead was George’s biological father, but when he was a young child, his mother wed J.D. Foreman, who became his surname. Nancy and J.D. relocated to Houston because of the dearth of employment options. But he left a few years after George was born, leaving her to raise her seven children by herself. Nancy recognized the value of quality education and urged her kids to perform well in class and stay out of trouble so that it wouldn’t affect them.
