Renowned fashion designer Adu Amani, who created the “Ama Ni” line, has commented on the recent criticism aimed at Serwaa Amihere and Nana Aba Anamoah.
Amani claimed that once these broadcasters started holding politicians responsible on several platforms, the public’s opinion of them.
Amani wrote a lengthy post on Facebook expressing her displeasure that these two people are being attacked rather than being praised for their bravery and tenacity in doing journalism. Even when they speak truth to power, they get criticism rather than appreciation.
“People don’t want to discuss the fact that these two have been a target for a long time because of their loudness and the way they interviewed politicians,” Amani stated. “The goal, regardless of gender, is to quiet you when you interact with politicians. They simply walked into a trap. People were eager to silence them, particularly since they are women and in our society, ladies need to keep quiet and be modest. They went too far.
Amani’s remarks follow the disclosure of a private video featuring Serwaa Amihere. Since then, some members of the public have mocked and retaliated against the news presenter and her mentor, Nana Aba Anamoah, while others have expressed worry by expressing sympathy for Serwaa.
“What is your ultimate goal? Do you want to fire her, etc.? Some of you even seem to want her removed from the planet. For some of you, that is witchcraft, I mean. Since you practiced the golden rule of quiet despite the exposed clergy, politicians, and others that I have witnessed.
“And consider this: ‘Today, if I were in her circumstances, who would empathize with me?’ before you knock people out for showing sympathy for her. Now that her video has been released, should we stone her to death? Is Amani asking?
Popular broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah may have been well-known as a result of her work on TV3. She hosted The Divas Show on Saturdays in addition to her roles as a news reporter.
After leaving, she found employment with GHOne TV, where she remained a news anchor and also assumed the host positions for State of Affairs, Starr Chat, and Cheers. She then rose to the rank of General Manager.
The influence of Nana Aba Anamoah goes well beyond her work in broadcasting; her charm and intelligence have struck a chord with a wide range of people, from common Ghanaian street vendors to beggars, who have either been the subject of her broadcasts, benefited from her kindness, or were somehow connected to her.
Serwaa Amihere was shaped into another powerful figure in the media by her mentoring. Apart from her job as a news presenter, Serwaa has interviewed a lot of politicians and other notable people, making her one of the most powerful media characters in Ghana.
