Lebanese singer Najah Salam was born in Beirut in 1931. In 1949 in Cairo, she made her first recordings of songs for Baidaphon.
Mohamed Salman was the man she was wed to. She performed in school concerts to launch her career. Her father traveled with her to Cairo in 1948, where he introduced her to renowned performers such as vocalist Asmahan, guitarist Farid al-Atrash, and musician Umm Kulthum.
In 1995, the American Society Honoring Giants of Arab Art presented her with an Academy Award. The vocalist from Lebanon has also joined the casts of ten films.
