The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been given a two-day ultimatum by the National Association of Graduate Professors (NAGRAT) to pay the salary of some professors by Friday or face their fury.
The Association claimed that over 400 instructors’ paychecks had been withheld by the OSP.
The Office claims that they are looking into “ghost names” associated with government payrolls.
However, NAGRAT President Angel Karbonu stated that this is insufficient rationale for deducting their pay.
“When you audit someone, you don’t go ahead and inflict purgery until the audit is finished and you have conclusively arrived indicating that A, B, and C are not qualified to earn a salary.”
Speaking on Newsnight on Wednesday, he issued a warning that if the OSP does not release them by Friday, February 16, 2024, the Association will have no choice but to take alternative action.
“He (the Special Prosecutor) is not going to focus on bad teachers; he has not completed trying persons who have received bribes in elections and other situations.
“He will have to take responsibility for whatever occurs after Friday if he doesn’t defreeze the salaries by Friday. ” Mr. Karbonu issued a caution.
