Mwai Kibaki, Kenya’s former president was announced by Kenyatta not long ago to the shock of the global diaspora.

Kibaki is not remembered as a revolutionist but also as a true leader who held his people in high esteem.

He received a scholarship to Makerere University in Uganda, where he studied economics, history, and political science, thanks to his high school scores.

Kibaki assisted in the drafting of Kenya’s first constitution during a visit to the country.

In 1960, he returned to Kenya and spent two years as the executive officer of KANU, the country’s major political party at the time.

Kenya gained independence in 1963, and Kibaki was elected to Parliament.

Before becoming Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in 1970, he had a number of jobs. Moi appointed Kibaki as his vice president when he became president in 1978.

He was 90.
