Ghanaian gospel musician, Akesse Brempong, has shared his thoughts on the recent ranking of African countries based on music streaming revenue. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), South Africa emerged as the top market in Africa with significant growth in music revenue.

Sub-Saharan Africa was highlighted as the only region to exceed a 20 percent growth rate, with paid streaming revenues playing a significant role in the industry’s success. However, Ghana did not make it to the top ten African countries with high music revenue from streaming, lagging behind countries like Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

In response to this ranking, Akesse Brempong encouraged musicians and music lovers in Ghana not to be disheartened. He attributed Ghana’s lower revenue to factors such as internet penetration and the cost of data, which are hindering the country’s music streaming potential.

The musician emphasized the need to celebrate the industry’s small achievements and acknowledged that Ghana’s music industry is making progress, albeit at a slower rate compared to Nigeria. He called for a focus on addressing systematic issues within the industry to improve revenue generation.

Akesse Brempong also praised Ghanaian artists for their efforts in music distribution, promotion, and the business aspect of the industry. He urged stakeholders not to compare Ghana’s music revenue achievements with other countries, as each country faces unique challenges.
