The late Major Maxwell Mahama’s mother wept in court as the final decision in his trial was read.
The Attorney General, Godfred Dame, was seen consoling the upset mother in a social media video.Members of her family and sympathisers accompanied her.
Sad to say, in May 2017, a mob in Denkyira-Obuasi, Ghana, brutally murdered soldier Major Maxwell Mahama. Vigilante justice was sharply criticized as a result of the widespread outrage this provoked.
On January 29, 2024, the court rendered its final ruling following years of legal proceedings. For their roles in Major Mahama’s murder, twelve suspects received life sentences in prison. In contrast, Bismark Donkor and Bismark Abanga were declared innocent and freed.
With the hopes of preventing similar acts of violence and upholding justice, the verdict closes a difficult chapter in the lives of Major Mahama’s family and the country.
The case emphasizes how crucial a just judicial system is to dealing with horrible atrocities and guaranteeing that those responsible are held accountable.
