FILMMAKER Morgan Spurlock, known for the eye-opening documentary Super Size Me, has passed away at the age of 53. Spurlock’s family announced that he died in Upstate New York on Thursday due to complications of cancer.

Spurlock rose to fame in 2004 with the release of Super Size Me, a documentary that followed the filmmaker as he ate McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 30 days. The film highlighted the effects of consuming fast food regularly and led McDonald’s to discontinue its “super size” meal option.

The 2004 documentary earned Spurlock an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature and sparked a national conversation about eating habits and the fast-food industry. In 2017, he released a sequel titled Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken, focusing on the fast-food chicken industry and the reality behind the products being served.

However, Spurlock’s career took a hit in 2017 when he admitted to a history of sexual misconduct, including settling a sexual harassment claim with a former office assistant. The filmmaker also revealed instances of infidelity and being accused of rape. Despite these controversies, Spurlock leaves behind a legacy that challenged the way people think about fast food and made a lasting impact on the industry.

Morgan Spurlock is survived by his two sons, parents, brothers, and ex-wives. His work as a filmmaker and advocate for healthier eating habits will continue to inspire and educate audiences for years to come.
