Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs) around the country have been directed by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications to work with agents to link their accounts to the Ghana Card or Tax Identification Number (TIN) by Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the latest, before business closes.

The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications issued an order on January 30, 2024, stating that noncompliance will result in the blocking of their SIM cards.

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) leadership and I had lengthy deliberations before coming to this decision, the chamber’s official declaration said.

“All agent accounts without Ghana Cards will be blocked on the 1st of February 2024,” according to the chamber’s mandate.

Prior to the deadline, important information about this exercise was directly shared with concerned agents via a variety of means, as the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications emphasized.

The chamber urged agents to regularize their operations by tying their accounts to their Ghana Cards or TINs in a statement that served as a final call to action.

According to the announcement, their accounts will be blocked if they didn’t comply by Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the latest.

On February 1, 2024, the Chamber specified a recourse for agents who have their accounts suspended. With their Ghana Card or TIN, they can visit any operator outlet to finish the connection procedure.
