Black Stars and West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus, an attacking midfielder, was the big winner of both Football of the Year and Sports Personality of the Year at the 48th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards, demonstrating his continuing excellence.
Held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Accra International Conference Centre, Kudus emerged victorious in the competition against Olympique Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah, Belgian club Genk’s Joseph Painstil, and Serbian club Red Star Belgrade’s Osman Bukari, to claim the coveted Footballer of the Year (Foreign) title.
In addition, the 23-year-old football player defeated James Dadzie, the rising star in athletics, to win Sports Personality of the Year.
The gifted midfielder’s outstanding play for the Black Stars, his previous team Ajax, and his present team West Ham United in the reviewed year earned him the two most coveted accolades.
Since joining the team in August 2023, Kudus has scored 13 goals, making him a fantastic addition to his new employers.
Jonathan Sowah of Medeama SC and the Black Stars was named the Male Footballer of the Year (Home based) and Comfort Yeboah of Ampem Darkoa Ladies was named the Female Footballer of the Year (Home based). (Home based).
Additionally, Priscilla Adubea earned Female Footballer of the Year (Foreign Based) and Augustine Evans Adotey, the coach of Medeama SC, won Coach of the Year. Awardee for Dedication and Valour was Rev. Emmanuel Nikoi of the Ghana Netball Federation.
Rosalind Amoh of the Graphic Communications Group and Maurice Quansah were also awarded accolades for their long-term contributions to SWAG.
