The Ministry of Health (MoH) has successfully received 14 out of 182 containers at the Tema Port containing essential medicines for antiretroviral, Tuberculosis (TB), and malaria treatments donated by the Global Fund (GF).

These essential medical commodities, including antiretroviral drugs for HIV patients, were delayed at the port for close to a year due to the government’s challenges in settling third-party fees.

Alhaji Hafiz Adam, Chief Director of the MoH, announced that there are approximately 168 more containers to be cleared. These containers, valued at around GHC17 million, contain non-medicine commodities such as bed nets and Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs).

“Today, 14 containers of health commodities will be delivered to a warehouse, including malaria RDT containers, malaria injections, and malaria medicine,” stated Alhaji Hafiz Adam.

The MoH Chief Director emphasized the importance of financial and technical support in health investments, expressing hope for continued support from the Ministry of Finance, its agencies, and the public in delivering quality healthcare access to Ghanaians.

Furthermore, the MoH reassured stakeholders and the general public of significant progress in clearing the remaining containers at the Tema Port, holding antiretrovirals, TB, and malaria medicines. The MoH highlighted the successful clearance of 253 containers with government support, leaving 182 containers to be processed.

The MoH, along with the Ministry of Finance, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and other stakeholders, remain committed to prioritizing the health needs of all individuals in the country.
