According to Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Mobile Money interoperability program was initiated in 2016 under the direction of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Sammy Gyamfi said that the Bank of Ghana gave SIBTON a contract for this reason in 2016, during the NDC/Mahama administration.
The NDC executive asked Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to give Ghanaians accurate facts in response to the 2024 NPP flagbearer’s recent speech at UPSA.
In his remarks on Wednesday, February 7, Dr. Bawumia praised Ghana’s quick rise in the continent’s mobile money market and credited the Akufo-Addo government’s investments in the industry for this accomplishment.
Dr. Bawumia’s claims have been refuted by Sammy Gyamfi in a news release, whereby he claims the vice president terminated an NDC-awarded contract and then gave it to his allies.
Conversely, Sammy Gyamfi said, “Under the visionary NDC/Mahama government, the Bank of Ghana awarded a company named SIBTON the first MOMO interoperability system contract in 2016.”
Bawumia’s sole purpose was to use deceit to terminate this Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) contract and give his crony business a new one.
