Mo Brooks is an American lawyer and politician who has represented Alabama’s 5th congressional district since 2011. Brooks declared his candidacy for the United States Senate seat being left by Richard Shelby in 2022 on March 22, 2021.

Former President Donald Trump backed his campaign. However, Trump withdrew his support in March 2022. Brooks finished second in the Republican primary in May, trailing Katie Britt; Brooks was defeated in the runoff by Britt.

Brooks met Martha Jenkins of Toledo, Ohio, at Duke University. They married in 1976. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

She earned a teaching degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2004. She is no longer teaching math at Whitesburg Middle School in Huntsville.

They have two sons, two daughters, and ten grandchildren.

His mother, Betty J. Brooks, taught economics and government at Lee High School for nearly 20 years while he attended Grissom High School. Brooks Sr. grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and worked as an electrical engineer before retiring from the Meteorology Center at Redstone Arsenal.
