The Minority in Parliament is calling for transparency regarding a GH₵95 million judgment debt awarded against Ghana in favor of West Blue.
West Blue was previously a technical service provider for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the ports until their contract was terminated by the government.
During a hearing of the Public Accounts Committee, GRA boss Julie Essiam confirmed the amount of the judgment debt. However, member of the Public Accounts Committee Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed is demanding an explanation from the government about the justification for this payment and the legal defense put up prior to the award.
Mr. Mohammed expressed concerns that the judgment debt to be paid appears to be a case of “create, loot, and share.” The call for accountability and transparency in the handling of public funds highlights the importance of ensuring that taxpayers’ money is used responsibly and ethically.
The government needs to address these concerns and provide clarification on how such a significant judgment debt was incurred to uphold good governance and financial integrity.
