American singer-songwriter Minnie Julia Riperton Rudolph was born on November 8, 194. She is best remembered for her 1975 single “Lovin’ You” and her four-octave D3 to F7 coloratura soprano range.  She is renowned for her usage of the whistling register and has been dubbed the “Queen of the Whistle Register” by the media.

Come to My Garden, Riperton’s debut solo album was produced, arranged, and orchestrated by her Rotary Connection bandmate Charles Stepney and released by GRT Records in 1970. Stepney and Richard Rudolph, who married Riperton in August 1970, co-wrote several of the songs.

Ramsey Lewis introduced her as a solo artist on Saturday, December 26, 1970, at Chicago’s famed London House. Riperton then went on to perform several songs from the album with Stepney. Come to My Garden was not a commercial success when it was released, but it is now regarded favorably by music critics.
