Milt Larsen (April 9, 1931 – May 29, 2023) was an American actor, writer, performer, songwriter, magician, entrepreneur, and lecturer who founded The Magic Castle, a private club for magicians and fans.

Larsen and his brother, Bill Larsen Jr., both worked on television and grew up in a magician’s family. William W. Larsen Sr., their father, was a performing magician and Los Angeles defense attorney. Geraldine, their mother, was an early television pioneer children’s entertainer known as The Magic Lady.

Larsen’s parents launched Genii, The Conjurors Magazine, in 1936, and it is still in print today. The Larsen Family was named one of the 100 most important magicians of the twentieth century by Magic magazine in 1999.

The Larsen Brothers’ father died in 1953, leaving unfulfilled his ambition of a gathering spot for magicians to share trade secrets over drinks. Larsen met Tom Glover, the owner of the hillside property that housed the Hollywood restaurant The Yamashiro, in 1961.

Larsen told Glover about his father’s plan for a magician’s clubhouse, and Glover agreed to Milt’s request to turn the Lane estate on Glover’s property, below The Yamashiro, into The Magic Castle, a magician’s nightclub and home of the Academy of Magical Arts.
