Mike Edwards, an American football safety with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, was born on May 18, 1996.
He attended Kentucky for his collegiate football career, and the Buccaneers selected him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Edwards with the 99th overall pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
When Brett Rypien threw a ball late in the fourth quarter of Week 3’s game against the Denver Broncos, Edwards intercepted it for the first time in his career, giving the Buccaneers a 28-10 victory in 2020.
Again, during the 30-20 victory over the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, Edwards intercepted a pass fired by Drew Brees. The Buccaneers’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV gave Edwards his first Super Bowl ring.
In Week 2’s 48-25 victory over the Atlanta Falcons during the 2021 season, Edwards had four tackles, three pass deflections, and two interceptions returned for scores by Matt Ryan.
Edwards was voted NFC Defensive Player of the Week for the way he played in Week 2. For breaking the NFL’s COVID-19 rules, specifically for lying about his immunization status, he was given a three-game suspension by the NFL on December 2, 2021.
He currently plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
