Dopud was born on June 10, 1968, and was raised in Montreal, Quebec. He speaks three languages well (English, French, and Serbian). He briefly played professional Canadian football for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

He performed countless stunts for both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis before taking on a more prominent role as Varro on Stargate Universe. He also had a number of minor roles on those shows.
He was nominated in 2005 for a Taurus World Stunt Award for his performance in Walking Tall.

Mike is happily married to Angela Schneider, his long-time love. They have two children by name Dane Dopud and Danica Dopud.
