After their National League match against Chesterfield, Oldham Athletic midfielder Hallam Hope was “viciously assaulted” outside Boundary Park and sustained “severe injuries.”
The incident, according to the club, occurred on Saturday in the staff parking lot.
According to a club statement, the 28-year-old needed hospital treatment and would be sidelined “for several weeks.”
The Latics said that they had produced CCTV evidence of the incident and that the matter had been reported to the police.
“The club is supporting Hallam and will continue to do so. We wish him a speedy recovery from a dreadful experience,” an Oldham Athletic statement said.
“Whilst the investigation is continuing Oldham Athletic will make no further comment on the incident.”
Hope participated in the full ninety minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 loss against Chesterfield.
He signed with Oldham in 2021 and stayed with the team after they were demoted from League Two the previous season.
This season, he has made seven league appearances and scored three goals.
