Surprisingly, most Windows 10 users are still haunted by the icon-flinging specter. This, however, reminds me of that really strange bug where Windows 11 caused havoc with lots of multi-monitor setups, shuffling desktop icons around, or even moving them onto different screens.
Well, the good news is that Microsoft has now fixed this, but the not-so-great news is that it isn’t remedied for Windows 10 users, not even yet.
Most affected users of Windows 11 personal computers were seeing icons being moved about on the desktop or seemingly randomly shifted to their other monitors in a highly confusing fashion. like the digital equivalent of a poltergeist possessing your system and causing lots of mischief.
In early November 2023, the issue and the problem were identified, with the root cause being Copilot; however, this led to Microsoft putting a block, which is a so-called compatibility hold.
In addition, it was noted that the hold is affecting the rollout of the said AI assistant to those with multiple monitors attached to their personal computers, and there was a block on the Windows 11 23H2 upgrade for those users who hadn’t yet migrated to that version.
Greatly, all that’s now lifted as the issues have been resolved, as Neowin spotted.
In addition, Microsoft has updated its known issues with Windows 23H2. This was noted in the released dashboard, which said that “this issue was resolved on the service side for Windows 11, version 23H2, and Windows 11, version 22H2, with device updates released freshly on January 9, 2024, and more.
