Former Bibiani Goldstars coach Michael Osei is on the verge of making a grand return to Asante Kotoko SC as their new manager.
Speculations have been rife that the 52-year-old is the top choice to take over from Prosper Nertey Ogum, whose position is hanging by a thread.
Ogum, who guided Kotoko to a Premier League title in the past, has been facing immense pressure due to a string of poor performances in the ongoing 2023/24 league season. The team’s recent form has been disappointing, with four losses and one draw in their last five matches.
Their FA Cup dreams were shattered after being knocked out by Karela United FC in the round of 16, and they currently find themselves in 10th place on the league table with 33 points. It appears that the Interim Management Committee of the club is not impressed with Ogum’s performance and are considering replacing him.
Reports suggest that Michael Osei, who recently parted ways with GoldStars, is the frontrunner for the Kotoko job. The experienced manager, who spent two-and-a-half seasons with GoldStars, has reportedly been in talks with the club but no official announcement has been made yet.
Osei, who has previously worked with the Black Meteors and held coaching positions at Liberty Professionals and Star Madrid, has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Asante Kotoko. He has expressed his willingness to manage his former club again, but is yet to confirm his decision as he waits for further developments.
Currently taking a break in Germany with his family, Osei’s potential appointment could bring a fresh perspective to the struggling Kotoko side in the hopes of turning their season around.
Fans of the club will be eagerly awaiting any official confirmation of his return as the new manager.
