Former American football offensive tackle Michael Jerome Oher, born on May 28, 1986, spent eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL), mostly with the Baltimore Ravens.
Oher finally chose to play for Ed Orgeron at the University of Mississippi, the alma mater of his guardians, Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, despite receiving scholarship offers from Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina. The National Collegiate Athletic Association launched an investigation into him after he decided to play football for the Ole Miss Rebels (NCAA).
The first problem was that, at the time of the Ole Miss offer, Oher’s grade-point average (GPA) was still too low to qualify for a Division I scholarship. By the time Oher graduated and finished her online coursework at Brigham Young University, the obstacle had been resolved.
