Hyatt was born in Birmingham, West Midlands, to Jamaican parents Charles Hyatt, an actor, presenter, and comedian, and Vera Hyatt, an art historian, museologist, and former deputy director of the National Gallery of Jamaica.
Hyatt was exposed to theater and art as a young kid in Jamaica throughout the 1970s through the activities of both of her parents. When Hyatt was ten years old, she moved to the US along with her mother and two siblings. Hyatt earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Howard University and a master’s degree in fine arts from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. The family first resided in Maryland and later moved to Washington, D.C.
