Michael Hirst (born September 21, 1952) is an English screenwriter, creator, and producer best known for his works on the films Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age, as well as the Emmy Award-winning television series The Tudors. Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla was created, written, and executive produced by Hirst.
Hirst grew raised in the West Yorkshire town of Ilkley. He graduated from the University of Nottingham with a First Class Honours Degree in English and American Literature and went on to study Henry James at Trinity College, Oxford.
Hirst planned to be an academic but changed his mind after Nicolas Roeg read one of his short tales and requested him to create scripts for him.
