Against Juventus Lionel Messi will look to improve his Champions League record

By scoring in the Champions League’s 39th different club, Lionel Messi has passed Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 24-minute mark of Wednesday’s (September 14) game saw Maccabi Haifa take the lead thanks to Tjaronn Chery, shocking the French champions. But Messi quickly brought Christophe Galtier’s team even eight minutes before the break.

The 35-year-old Argentine finished from close range following Kylian Mbappe’s pullback. It was his 126th goal in the Champions League, putting him just 14 goals behind Ronaldo’s record of 140.

And when it comes to yet another stunning statistic, Messi has now surpassed his Portuguese adversary.

The former Barcelona player has now scored in Europe’s top tournament against 39 different teams. That is one more than Ronaldo, who had previously tied him with 38 points each.

And it appears that Ronaldo will need to wait at least another year before he can attempt to increase his total. This is due to the fact that the Manchester United forward is now making his career debut in the Europa League.
