The Chelsea number goalkeeper has been trending lately following issues concerning his contract extension.

According to credible reports, Edouard Mendy turned down a contract offer from Chelsea because it was less lucrative than Kepa Arrizabalaga’s offer.

The 30-year-old goal stopper was offered less lucrative conditions than Kepa, the backup goalie, who makes £190,000 each week.

The problem is that Mendy, Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, has played in every game all season long while the team’s backup goalkeeper has sat on the bench the entire time doing nothing to help the team.

The Senegalese star is said to have declined Chelsea’s initial offer, according to credible media sources.

When Kepa was acquired from Athletic Bilbao for £71 million in 2018, he was given a contract worth nearly £200,000 per week.

In contrast, Mendy has one of the lowest salaries at Stamford Bridge since he moved there for $22 million in 2020 from Rennes.

Reece James, a recent academy product, signed a new contract earlier this week worth £250,000 per week last week, and now Chelsea wants to guarantee the futures of Mendy and Mason Mount.

The contracts of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are both coming to an end, and the Blues want to extend with both midfielders.

Despite the fact that Mendy’s contract situation is thought to be complicated at the moment.
