Joseph Michael Lombardo (born November 8, 1962) is a Nevada politician and former law enforcement officer who has been the state’s 31st governor since January 2023. He served as the 17th Sheriff of Clark County from 2015 until 2023, concluding a 34-year career in law enforcement. He is a Republican.
Lombardo, who was born in Japan, went to Las Vegas in 1976 and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was a member of the United States Army before joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1988.
He was first elected sheriff in 2014, and he was re-elected in 2018. He was elected Republican governor of Nevada in 2022, barely defeating incumbent Democratic governor Steve Sisolak in the general election.

Joe Lombardo, the son of a United States Air Force veteran, was born on November 8, 1962, in Sapporo, Japan. He spent over a decade in Japan before relocating to Las Vegas in 1976. In 1980, Lombardo graduated from Rancho High School.
Lombardo earned a bachelor of science in civil engineering and a master of science in crisis management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 2006, he also finished the 227th session of the FBI National Academy.
