Jim Thorpe was the son of an Irish father and a Sac and Fox Indian mother and died on March 28, 1953, in Lomita, California, United States at the age of 65.

He was born on May 28, 1887, in Oklahoma, United States into a family of four children. He is a twin and his brother is called Charlie Thorpe.

It was recorded in early 1953 that, Thorpe went into heart failure for the third time while dining with Patricia in their home in Lomita, California.

He was briefly revived by artificial respiration and spoke to those around him, but lost consciousness shortly afterward.

He competed in track and field, as well as football, baseball, lacrosse, and even ballroom dancing, winning the 1912 intercollegiate ballroom dancing championship, and was awarded All-American honors in both 1911 and 1912.

Grace, Charlotte Marie, Jim Jr., William, Richard, Gale, Carl, and Jack are the eight children born to Jim Thorpe from the three marriages he had.

In 1913, Thorpe married Iva Miller, whom he had met at Carlisle. They had four children: Jim Jr. who died at age 3 died in 1918 from infantile paralysis.

Infantile paralysis was the term used for what is now called polio, a viral disease; Gale died at the age of 88 from a lengthy illness that was not disclosed, Charlotte died Thursday, December 8, 1998, in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the age of 79, and Grace died on April 1, 2008, from complications following a heart attack. Miller filed for divorce from Thorpe in 1925, claiming desertion.

In 1926, Thorpe married Freeda V. Kirkpatrick. She was working for the baseball team manager for which he was playing at the time. They had four sons: Carl, William, Richard, and John “Jack”. William, Richard, and Jack survived their mother, who divorced their father in 1941 after 15 years of marriage.

Lastly, Thorpe married Patricia Askew, who was with him when he died.
