From 1994 to 2013, he served in the Chamber of Deputies; from 2022 to 2023, and from March to November 2013, he served in the Senate of the Republic; and from 2019 to 2023, and earlier from 1999 to 2001, he served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
