Northern Irish author Maurice Henry Leitch MBE lived from July 5, 1933, to September 23, 2303. Novels, short tales, dramas, screenplays, radio and television documentaries were among Leitch’s works.
The Liberty Lad, his debut book, was released in 1965. Poor Lazarus, his second book, received the Guardian Fiction Prize in 1969, and Silver’s City, published in 1981, took home the Whitbread Prize.

Before beginning his career as a producer/writer for BBC Northern Ireland in 1960, Leitch spent several years teaching in Antrim’s elementary schools. He relocated to London in 1970 to work as a producer for the BBC’s Radio drama division.
He served as the program’s editor from 1977 to 1989, when he left to pursue full-time writing. He received an MBE for services to literature in the New Year Honours List of December 31, 1998.
