Matteo Messina Denaro was a Sicilian Mafia boss from Castelvetrano, Italy. He was considered to be one of the new leaders of the Sicilian mob after the arrests of Bernardo Provenzano on 11 April 2006 and Salvatore Lo Piccolo in November 2007.
In 2010, Forbes listed Messina Denaro as one of the top ten most wanted and dangerous criminals in the world. Messina Denaro first appeared on the most wanted list in 1993. After the passings of Salvatore Riina and Bernardo Provenzano in 2016 and 2017, Messina Denaro was regarded as the undisputed Mafia boss. He was apprehended on January 16, 2023, in Palermo, the capital of Sicily, after 30 years on the lam.

There is no evidence that Matteo Messina Denaro was ever married. He had a daughter, Lorenzana Messina Denaro, with his ex-girlfriend Francesca Alagna in 1996, but they never married.
Denaro had a number of other romantic relationships during his time on the run, including with Maria Mesi, who was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison in 2001 for aiding and abetting him. However, there is no indication that he ever married any of his partners.
