Matt Pobereyko was a longtime minor league pitcher who had recently become a top hurler in Mexico. His professional career started in 2013 with Tampa Bay Rays draft selection, however, he made his professional debut in 2017, after signing with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for three seasons before being dealt to the Cleveland Indians in 2020.

THe alented pitcher Matt Pobereyko represented the Indiana-based Evansville Otters, an independent professional baseball club. He was born on December 24, 1991, in Hammond, Indiana. Before enrolling at Kentucky Wesleyan College, he attended Bishop Noll School.

The New York Mets signed free agent Pobereyko to a minor league deal on June 21, 2017. The teams he was later assigned included the Brooklyn Cyclones, St. Lucie Mets, and Las Vegas 51s.
