He struggled at first, missing five of his first six field goals, but he finished the season well, making three of them. He was the game’s captain versus Texas Tech.

Due to an injury to the Chiefs’ starting kicker Harrison Butker, he was added to the active roster for Week 3’s contest against the Indianapolis Colts. Ammendola failed to make a field goal and an extra point throughout the contest. The team let him go on September 26, 2022.
