Maryam Hashemi (born 1977) is an Iranian visual artist based in East London’s Hackney Wick. Frequently using pencil, watercolor, or acrylic paint.
Hashemi was raised in Tehran. She earned a degree in Graphic Design from Islamic Azad University in 2001 and has lived in the United Kingdom since 2002.
She is a figurative painter who currently works in the Magical Realist style, though some of her works are more Surrealist in nature. Her subjects are mostly women, and many of her recent works are self-portraits. She is best known for her watercolor and pencil works, but her most recent works include acrylic on canvas, recreations, and installation.
