English keyboardist Martin Bernard Duffy, who played with Felt at the beginning and Primal Scream most recently, passed away on December 20, 2022.
He was born in Birmingham, United Kingdom, on May 18, 1967.
Duffy was born in Birmingham and raised in Rednal, a neighborhood in the southern part of the city. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in King’s Norton while growing up and listening to 2 Tone, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin as well as punk rock.
In 1985, Duffy joined Felt as the keyboard player and went on to become one of the band’s founding members. Later, Felt frontman Lawrence said “I posted flyers at Virgin in Birmingham asking, “Do You Want To Be A Rock ‘N’ Roll Star?” When this person approached me and said, “I know this piano player,” I had already put two up. He’s 16. He recently got out of school.”
