According to Dr. Mayer, the cancer center’s director of the blood bank and hematology lab, Mrs. Mitchell had been afflicted with the malignancy from the beginning of 1975 or before and had remained comatose since being admitted to the hospital on Sunday after suffering a heart collapse.
