Shaw rose to prominence in 1966 with her song “California Soul,” and she remained a mainstay of the hip-hop culture for the remainder of her life.
Last night, January 19, her daughter Marla Shaw posted a confirmation of her passing on her official Facebook profile. Although the cause of death has not been disclosed, Marla stated in the brief video that her mother is at peace, saying, “Our family is at peace again.” She left calmly.
