Mark Lanegan, a pioneering vocalist of Seattle’s grunge music scene best known for his work with Screaming Trees, has died, according to his family and friends on his verified Twitter account.
He was 57 years old.
Mark Lanegan’s voice was one of the most well-known in music.
He was the lead singer of the rock band Screaming Trees, and his deep, gritty voice gave the grunge band’s music a distinct flavor.
According to All Music, Lanegan remained with Screaming Trees until their official dissolution in June 2000.
Mark Lanegan health, disease and drug addictions
According to NME, Mark Lanegan was always candid about his drug addiction, which was so terrible that he had decaying teeth and was even homeless at one time.
After authorities spotted him during an alleged drug sale in 1997, he was charged with drug possession and discovered to be in possession of drug paraphernalia as well.
According to MTV, the accusations were ultimately dismissed because the amount of drugs involved was below the legal threshold for prosecution.
Lanegan admitted that when he was at his worst, he was on a variety of narcotics.
“I was quite ill at the end,” he said.
