Hoppus grew up near Washington, D.C. before moving to Ridgecrest, California, which he later described as “geniuses, scientists, physicists, and then just complete strung-out meth-heads.”
Mark Hoppus parents: Meet Kerry Wernz, Tex Hoppus.
Mark Hoppus was born on March 15, 1972, in Ridgecrest, California, to Kerry Wernz and Tex Hoppus. His father, Tex Hoppus, used to work for the United States Department of Defense, designing missiles and bombs. Anne Hoppus is his older sister’s name. His parents divorced when he was eight years old, resulting in a lonely childhood, he later claimed.
Hoppus became increasingly lonely on these tours, as he had no significant other while the rest of the band did. The demanding schedule caused friction within the band, which fired Raynor in the summer of 1998 under mysterious circumstances that were never fully explained. The trio went into the studio with producer Jerry Finn and recorded Enema of the State, which launched the band’s career, catapulting them into the “stratosphere of pop music” and solidifying them as the biggest pop punk act of the era. Three singles were released from the record—”What’s My Age Again?”, “All the Small Things”, and “Adam’s Song”—crossed over into the Top 40 radio format and experienced major commercial success.
