Mark Richard Hamill was born in Oakland, California, on September 25, 1951, to Virginia Suzanne (née Johnson) and William Thomas Hamill, a U.S. Navy Captain. He is the youngest of seven siblings, with two brothers, Will and Patrick, and four sisters, Terry, Jan, Jeanie, and Kim.
His father is of English, Scottish, Irish, and Welsh descent, while his mother is half-Swedish and half-English. Hamill describes his father as a devout Roman Catholic and a “Nixon Republican.”

Mark is a well-known voice actor who has appeared in a number of animated television series, films, and video games. Hamill is best known for playing the Joker in a number of DC Comics projects, beginning with Batman: The Animated Series (1992–1994). In addition, he has voiced the Hobgoblin in Spider-Man (1994-1998), Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008), and Skips in Regular Show (2010–2017).
