After an impressive victory against Liverpool in their pre-season fixture yesterday(July 12 )which ended 4-0 in their favor, the Red Devils are bent on boosting their defensive line-up.
According to rumors , Manchester is planning to increase their bid for Ajax star Lisandro Martinez. Martinez is a top transfer target for Erik ten Hag, who is said to be pushing United to sign him.
The Red Devils reportedly bid £42 million for the 24-year-old Argentine, which was slightly less than his £46 million asking price.
However, according to reports, United will meet with him again on Wednesday(July 13) and will match his valuation. Ajax has reportedly changed its stance on Martinez and is now willing to discuss a sale after finding a replacement.
The Dutch champions are interested in signing Ukraine international Mykola Matvienko for £12.5 million.
Martinez is also said to have told Ajax that he wants to leave due to interest from Manchester United and Arsenal. The Gunners made several bids for the Argentine, the highest of which was thought to be around £34 million.
