A self-proclaimed businessman has appeared before the High Court in Accra on charges of masterminding and executing robberies targeting high-profile individuals and elites in their homes.

Yahuza Osumanu is accused of robbing a 76-year-old woman in Ridge and the wife of a former Vice President, Matilda Yaaba Amissah Arthur, by using violent tactics. The prosecution alleges that during the robbery at the former Second Lady’s residence, he made away with GH₵28,000, £50, and $2,200.

The prosecution further claims that Osumanu carried out multiple robberies in affluent neighborhoods using similar methods, stealing valuable items worth millions of Ghana cedis. The stolen items reportedly include two Rolex watches valued at $61,000, two Cartier wristwatches worth $19,000, an iPhone 15 Pro Max valued at $1,000, jewelry worth $50,000, and more.

Additionally, it is alleged that the accused used the proceeds from these crimes to acquire luxury vehicles and properties for himself, including a Toyota FJ Cruiser, Toyota Prado, and Lexus.

Chief State Attorney (CSA) Frances M. Ansah led the prosecution, charging Osumanu with 26 counts of robbery and money laundering on April 16. Despite pleading not guilty during his appearance before Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, the accused has been remanded into prison custody pending his next court appearance on May 2.

According to CSA Ansah, the Police CID received numerous reports of residential robberies committed by a lone armed man in areas such as Airport, Cantonments, Tesano, and Ridge during the second quarter of 2023. The identification and pursuit of the accused were aided by CCTV footage from Kaeela Courts Apartments in the Airport Residential Area, leading to his arrest in Kasoa on December 15, 2023.

The prosecution’s case includes incidents involving the robbery of Dr. Abu Sakara Foster, Daniel Kwame Osafo, Tracy Osei-Hyeaman, and Mrs. Amissah Arthur, where the accused allegedly threatened the victims with a pistol, demanded valuables, and fled the scene after the robbery.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the accused faces serious charges that could have significant implications for his future. The court will continue to hear the case and determine the outcome in due course.
