News reaching us at Ghanafuo.com suggests that a man, who has not been named, in Accra, Ghana, has killed his wife and inflicted cutlass wounds on his father-in-law.
The incident was reported by a reliable media source, an Accra-based media outlet (UTV). According to witnesses, the man in question was a known wife-beater, and the couple’s marriage was plagued with issues.
The witness, who was the linguist at their wedding, stated that the deceased had been begged several times to return to her husband’s home whenever she left due to his abusive behavior.
The witness further lamented the role some clergymen played in begging her to return each time.
Sadly the 25-year-old lady who was gruesomely killed by her husband left behind a three-year-old son and one-and-a-half daughter. Reports claimed she died on the spot after she sustained injuries from the cutlass used on her by her abusive husband.
Relatives and friends of the deceased gathered at her home in Nungua, to mourn their loss. Pastor Boafo of Calvary Baptist, who spoke at the home, called on the government to ensure that justice is served.
Additionally, he also highlighted the need for the government to address the increasing crime rate among young people and not cover up the issues.
There are conflicting accounts regarding the motive behind the man’s actions. Some sources say that he killed his wife and later committed suicide due to her insistence on getting a divorce. However, this information has not been confirmed by any of the legal authorities.
This sad incident highlights the issue of domestic violence in Ghana and the need for more effective measures to address it. The government and society as a whole must take steps to educate people on the dangers of domestic violence and provide support for victims.
Justice must also be served in cases of domestic violence to deter others from committing such heinous crimes.
