At Senya Beraku in the Central Region, a 27-year-old man known only as Clifford has been detained on suspicion of trying to murder an 11-year-old girl for religious purposes.
Around 10:00 p.m., the young child went missing from her playdate with pals, leading neighbors to begin a search.
The incident was then reported to the police out of concern for her welfare. A local noticed Clifford and the 11-year-old girl in a thicket close to the shore during the hunt. The eyewitness claimed that the suspect was pressing a knife up against the girl’s neck.
He claimed that Clifford had attached himself to the knife to save the victim. Two more people race to the location to catch the culprit after he raises the alarm.
He was turned over to the police, who then took him to the district court in Awutu Bereku. Searches are being conducted to find potential accomplices. The defendant has been placed on remand and is scheduled to return to court on February 8.
