Majority leadership change may cause disunity – Atta Akyea

The Abuakwa South Member of Parliament, Samuel Atta Akyea, has stated that he opposes any move to change the parliamentary majority leadership.

His remarks coincide with the resignation of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Majority Leader and the intensifying hostilities between the national leadership and the parliamentary group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During a Thursday interview with Asempa FM, Mr. Atta Akyea highlighted the advancements the group has achieved under its current leadership.

He voiced worries that the harmony and peace the group has managed to establish thus far would be upended by a leadership transition, which is not supported by everyone.

“We have been managing it for all these years, and this is what we are now against. However, you’re going to do something that might annoy someone at the last minute when we need that harmony and serenity to finish. And we would declare that we are no longer united at a certain point.

I worry that if we want to maintain the success we achieved yesterday, let’s keep going in a way that makes it beautiful. Maybe the one you are bringing won’t be liked by everyone. I therefore have very high standards for unity in this final minute.
